Abstract
The diagnosis of autoimmune hepatitis (AIH) requires the presence of specific characteristics of clinical and laboratory features, the simultaneous exclusion of conditions that cause other chronic hepatitis or cirrhosis. Recently, we experienced three cases of autoimmune hepatitis from 2009 to 2010. We would like to review our three cases within a framework of scoring system. We investigated three cases in terms of clinical features, laboratory findings and treatment responses. Patients took prednisolone only or the combination of prednisolone and azathioprine. Laboratory tests were done before the treatment and on a weekly basis during the treatment. The three patients were all females. Their median age was 53.7(48-64) years. All three patients showed good responses to standard regimen. Liver biopsies were done on two patients and the pathological findings were compatible with autoimmune hepatitis. The treatment duration was from one to two months. The disease recurred in only one patient 5 months after the completion of treatment. In conclusion, the three cases of autoimmune hepatitis were typical in terms of clinical and laboratory findings. All three patients showed rapid and good response to immunosuppressive therapy. The recurrence occurred in only one patients out of three.
